Are the TETON Canvas Tents waterproof? What is seasoning?Updated 10 months ago
Waterproof:
Yes, our canvas tents are coated with a silicone-based waterproofing to 350 MM that needs to be maintained over the life of the tent.
Seasoning:
The tent is treated with a water-resistant treatment, but it's not ready to go right out of the box. When you first receive your tent, you'll need to season it to engage the water resistance, which is standard for all canvas tents (if you take a look at your owner's manual, it's on page 1). To do this, you'll want to set up the tent, spray down the exterior canvas with water, and let it dry completely before packing it back up again. This causes the canvas fibers to swell and lock together, making the material watertight. You'll only have to do this once. As always, make sure to dry your tent completely before packing it up to prevent mildew growth.
