How to remove mold from a canvas tent?

Having mold is not a pleasant situation and we’re sorry that you’re dealing with it on your canvas tent. Remember, a dry tent is a healthy tent. Even small amounts of moisture can cause mold to grow on the natural fibers of the canvas. This same mold will also damage your tent’s water repellency. As a reminder from your owner’s manual, mold growth on your tent is not covered by warranty.

How to Remove Mold from Your Canvas Tent

If mold does appear, don’t worry—you can remove it with the following steps. We recommend wearing a mask while cleaning to avoid inhaling mold or mildew spores.

Step-by-Step Mold Removal:

Step 1: Scrub Off the Mold

Use a stiff brush to scrub the affected area and remove as much mold as possible from the surface.

Step 2: Apply a Cleaning Solution

Fill a spray bottle with distilled white vinegar. You can also use:

Lysol
A mixture of lemon juice and salt dissolved in water

Spray the moldy area thoroughly so the solution saturates the canvas.

Step 3: Scrub the Area Again

Using a stiff brush, work the solution into the fabric and let it sit for at least two hours.

Step 4: Rinse the Tent

Spray the tent with clean water to remove any remaining cleaning solution.

Step 5: Restore Water Repellency

Once the tent is completely dry, apply a silicone-based waterproofing treatment like KIWI Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water Repellent to restore its protective coating.

Will Mold Stains Stay on the Canvas?

If the area no longer smells like mildew, the mold has been successfully removed. However, some stains may remain, which is normal and harmless. These marks do not affect the durability or performance of your tent.
