Tips for packing my backpack?Updated 10 months ago

When packing your bag for a backpacking trip it’s important to think of what you won’t need until camp is set up versus what you may need in a moment’s notice if the weather changes. Typically pack any dehydrated meals at the bottom of my bag, since you won’t be really grabbing any of those until camp is fully set up. As you look at the gear you have for your trip just prioritize what you’ll use only when camp is set up (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc.) versus what you could need at any point (rain jacket, snacks, water purification system). This will help you avoid pulling out all the contents of your bag every time you need something during your trip.

Packing:

Sleeping bags can obviously go in the sleeping bag compartment, or it can be carried on the outside of your pack. Sleeping pads we would also recommend carrying those on the outside of your pack. Your heaviest items should sit closest to your back on the inside of the bag. It's best to put your lighter items in the top hood or in the side pockets if possible. Having a first aid kit in an easy grab spot is important, along with snacks and anything else you may want/need while hiking in.
